Monitoring children’s progress
At WGJS we intend to monitor children’s progress closely using a range of assessments. On entry the children will all sit NFER assessments in English and Maths. These provide a wealth of information to share with the child’s class teacher. At the end of each year the children will sit age appropriate NFER assessments to help monitor progress over the year.
At the start of the year the children will be assessed in reading and spelling. The reading test will help ensure that a child’s reading material is matched to their reading comprehension. Problems with spelling are similarly recognised and appropriate strategies set for the year.

By closely monitoring children’s scores and progress year on year, problems and strengths can be identified and classroom strategies adjusted to best meet the needs of each child.
