Welcome to WGJS

The junior school years mark a crucial period in a child’s development. During this time a child establishes the foundations for future learning; they begin to form firm friendships; they become more independent and curious about the world around them. These are also years of fun and enjoyment as a child develops strengths and new interests.

The teaching staff at WGJS offer a mix of experience and youthful enthusiasm. All teachers share the same goals: to encourage a passion for learning and achieving potential. The teachers are all willing ‘to go the extra mile’ in meeting needs and encouraging children to succeed. We are lucky at WGJS to have a remarkably talented team.

WGJS is a busy school. We have an extensive sports fixture list involving all of our year groups. We believe that sport should be for all and we seek to find fixtures not only for those gifted at sport but also for those who simply want to play a competitive game. We provide the opportunity for our children to try over twenty different activities both at lunch time and after school. We encourage maximum participation through our choir, various music groups and through drama productions.

We are very fortunate to share not only the excellent facilities of the senior school, but also benefit from their teaching expertise. This year twenty of our colleagues from the senior school take lessons such as French, German, Italian, PE and Music. Big Six pupils also benefit from specialist teaching in Maths, Science and Art.

The children who have completed the Big Six year begin the next stage of their education equipped with the skills and confidence to realise their potential. WGJS offers a breadth of opportunity and excellence second to none.

Words are a start. I hope you will take up the invitation to visit the school and to arrange for a personal tour. I hope to welcome you soon and to share our vision.
